Text block resown, rubbing to marbled boards. Internally clean, free of notable foxing or wear. Both volumes complete: Frontispiece portrait, vignette title page, 4 bi-fold maps and 36 engraved plates in Volume I; Frontispiece portrait, vignette title page, 2 bi-fold maps and 30 engraved plates. This work first appeared as an illustrated, 8-volume work in 1856, published by James Virtue of London. This is the first two-volume edition, fully illustrated with maps and plates of the Crimean War.
