Bill White was the first baseman for the St. Louis Cardinals and the Philadelphia Phillies from 1956 to 1969. Over his career, he was an eight-time all-star and won seven Gold Glove Awards, showcasing his defensive prowess. White boasted a .286 career batting average, amassing over 1,800 hits and 200 home runs. After his playing career, he became a successful broadcaster and made history as the first African American president of a major sports league when he was appointed president of the National League in 1989, serving until 1994.
