Madeleine Albright (1937-2022) served as the first female United States Secretary of State in the Clinton administration (1997-2001). She previously served as the United States Ambassador to the United Nations (1993-1997), and she was a member of the faculty of Georgetown University for many years. She was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Barack Obama in 2012.
