Description
First edition of To Heal and to Build: The Programs of President Lyndon B. Johnson, inscribed by Lady Bird to the Director of the Lyndon B. Johnson State Park and Historic Site.
Octavo, xiv, 506pp. Blue cloth, title stamped in gilt and red. Stated “first edition” on copyright page, with no later printings noted. Top edge dyed yellow, faint sunning to top quarter of cloth, a near fine example. In the publisher’s dust jacket, retail price of $8.95 on front flap, shelf wear to both panels, a few short closed tears, a very good example.
This copy is signed by President Lyndon Johnson and inscribed by Lady Bird Johnson: “…with my best Christmas wishes to Sheryl Ann and Tom McGlathery.”
The recipient of this copy, Tom McGlathery, worked for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Division after graduating from the University of Texas. He became the Regional Parks Director for the Texas Hill Country in 1972, which oversaw the LBJ Ranch and Historic Site. McGlathery was responsible for 16 state parks and remained in the position for 25 years, until his retirement in 1997.
