Description

Signed first edition, second printing of Black Man’s Burden by John Oliver Killens.

Octavo, 176pp. Cream cloth, title in black on front cover and spine. Top edge dyed red. Stated “Second printing” on copyright page. Solid text block, foxing to covers, faint sunning to endpapers, a very good example. Inscription to front free endpaper honoring Father Augustine Winkler, recipient of an award from the Catholic Interracial Council of Columbus, Ohio in 1967. Additional inscription on verso of half-title from Missouri in 1987. In the publisher’s dust jacket, $3.95 retail price on front flap, chipped corners, soiling to panels. A very good example.

Inscribed by the author on the half-title page: “For Kay / Best regards / John Killens / 5-6-67.”
