Description

First edition, first printing of Walking with the Wind: A Memoir of the Movement, signed by Congressman John Lewis.

Octavo, 496pp. Gray hardcover, title stamped in gilt on spine. The first printing, with a full number line on the copyright page. Light foxing to outer edge of text block, otherwise fine. Laid-in postcard for an Atlanta History Center lecture and book signing event. In the publisher’s near fine dust jacket, $26.00 on front flap, faint shelf wear, an attractive example. Signed on the title page: “To Libby, Keep the faith, Best Wishes, John Lewis. 4-21-07.”

John Lewis (1940-2020) served in the United States House of Representatives from 1987-2020, representing Georgia’s 5th Congressional District. He was a lifelong civil rights activist, helping to organize the March on Washington in 1963, and he led the first of three marches from Selma to Montgomery across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in 1965. He was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2011.
