Octavo, ix, [3], [13] 251pp, [4 index], [errata]. Rebound in brown calf, title stamped in gilt on spine, decorative bands. New endpapers, trimmed edges. Light scattered foxing and toning. Complete with two fold-out maps of Cincinnati and the Miami Country, light toning to each map, closed tear to Cincinnati map, with archival tape repair to verso, Miami Country map in fine condition. An interesting early Cincinnati piece, being the first study of the geology of the western Ohio Valley, with special attention given to “elephant fossils” at Big Bone Lick (later discovered to be Mammoths). It also details Indian mounds within Cincinnati proper, earthquakes and the Northern Lights.
An important book on the early Ohio country and Cincinnati in particular.
