The signed limited edition of Abraham Lincoln: The Prairie Years by Carl Sandburg, published in 1926.
Octavo, [two volumes], xvi, 480pp; vi, 482pp. Publisher’s cream buckram, blue-gray paper boards. Top edge gilt. Both volumes with title label from rear endpaper, now affixed to the spine. Both volumes complete with frontispiece portraits, and 105 illustrations from photographs, cartoons, sketches, maps, and letters. Notable foxing throughout, toning to limitation page, rubbing to gilt along top edge. Text block generally stable, but front hinge of Volume I is showing some wear. Custom gray cloth slipcase, a fine example.
This limited edition is the second state text, with “ears” corrected to “eyes” in Volume I, p. 175 (Monaghan, 2877)
From a limited edition of 260 copies, printed on Dutch charcoal rag paper, with 250 available for public purchase, all signed by the author. This is copy number 83.
This work would be followed by Carl Sandburg’s Pulitzer Prize winning 4-Volume set called Abraham Lincoln: The War Years (1939-1941).
