First edition of The Dutch, Drawn to the Life, printed for Thomas Johnson and Henry Marsh in 1664.

Twelvemo, [xii], [1], 2-156pp. Full brown calf, title in gilt on red label affixed to spine. Leather is worn along edges, short point of peeling to front cover. Solid text block, with faint toning, small stains, and a short wormhole to leaves throughout. Leaf D12 is reconstructed along edges, covering the bottom line of text. A very good copy. Previous ownership inscription opposite Page 1, and remnants to a label on rear endpaper. Complete with frontispiece portrait of William of Aurange [Orange] (1650-1702), the eventual stadtholder of the Netherlands.

A unique, anonymous work on Holland and the Dutch peoples, customs, and politics. This work was published one year before the start of the Second Anglo-Dutch War (1665-1667), which united England and the Dutch Republic against Louis XIV and France.
