Inscribed by author John Hersey on front free end paper, with inscription: “For Lt. Col. Ed Hagenak, U.S.M.C. John Hersey. Mar ’43.”
Comments: Into the Valley was John Hersey’s second work, following Men on Bataan. His next book, A Bell for Adano, would earn him the Pulitzer Prize in 1945.
