After a lifetime of philanthropic giving, Dominique de Menil was looking to expand her involvement with civil rights and humanitarian causes. In 1986, she partnered with President Jimmy Carter to create the Carter-Menil Human Rights Foundation, awarding grants to individuals and organizations around the world for their commitment to human rights. Dominique de Menil died in December, 1997.
