Description
First printing of To Have and Have Not by Ernest Hemingway, in first state dust jacket.
Octavo, [viii], 262pp. Black cloth, author’s signature stamped in gold on cover, title over green on spine. A first printing, with Scribner’s A and publisher’s devise on copyright page. Previous ownership signature on front flyleaf. Light wear to black cloth, some rubbing to gilt signature on cover, age toning to text, but generally clean, a very good example. In publisher’s first state dust jacket, $2.50 on front flap, portrait of Hemingway on back panel. Chipping along top edge of both panels, tape repairs to verso, separation along spine hinges and some loss to head of spine, bright illustrations. (Hanneman 14a) A good example of the first state dust jacket, with noted issues.
