Thick octavo, xvi, 1328pp. Red leather, title stamped in gilt on spine and front cover with decorative gilt embellishments. No additional printings mentioned on copyright page. Frontispiece portrait. Red endpapers. All edges gilt with red stain beneath. Thumb index along fore-edge. Clean text, no marks or notations. Light wear along front hinge, faint soiling to covers. Housed in red cardboard slipcase, shelf wear, chipping along edges, seams splitting, but case is stable. An attractive example.
When the John C. Winston Company advertised the “Losey” edition of Shakespeare’s Works in 1926, they offered it in two bindings – Extra cloth, gold top, gold stamping for $3.00 and French Morocco, limp, red under gold edges for $4.00.
