Octavo, xxv, [1], 417pp, [index]. Yellow cloth with black spine, title and embellishments in gilt. Stated “first edition” on copyright page. Solid text block, top edge dyed black, faint foxing on fore edge and toning to rear endpapers, previous ownership inscription on front endpaper, a very good example. In publisher’s dust jacket, $5.00 retail price on front flap, shelf wear, some chipping and a few closed tears, a touch of toning to verso, a very good example.
Miguel Covarrubias (1904-1957) and his wife Rose traveled to Bali for their honeymoon in 1930. Due to a Guggenheim Fellowship grant, they returned in 1933 to collect the information and photography that would eventually be released as Island of Bali.
