Description

Letter from Ted Horn, the legendary American racecar driver, Indianapolis 500 Champion and member of the prestigious 100 Mile-An-Hour Club.

This letter is on Champion Spark Plug 100 Mile-An-Hour Club letterhead, dated April 7th, 1939. The letter is addressed to Larry Dunham of Automotive Gear Works in Richmond, Indiana. In the letter Horn complains that the recent gear ring he purchased was not cut correctly. Horn hopes that Automotive Gear Works will make it right and he will see them at the Indianapolis 500 race in May of 1939. Ted Horn would place 4th in the 1939 Indianapolis 500 Race and won the race in 1947. From 1935-1948, Ted Horn has the best 10-Year streak of finishes in Indianapolis 500 History, a record which has not been surpassed. He died at the age of 38 in 1948, after a serious accident while racing.

Provenance: Dr. Harlen Hunter, sold at the Heritage Auctions June 30, 2016 Auto Racing Sports Collectibles Catalog Auction #7146. Includes a signed letter of provenance from Heritage Auctions of Dallas, Texas.
