Description
Inscribed first edition of Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls.
Octavo, 212pp. Red brick cloth, title stamped on spine. Lacking “first edition” statement on copyright page. Dampstain to lower quarter of cloth, no impact to text block or dust jacket. No writing or wear to text block. In the publisher’s dust jacket, $4.95 on front flap, shallow chips and sunning to spine, closed tear to rear panel, a very good example. Inscribed on the front free endpaper: “To Jeanne – this story is part of my life. I hope you enjoy it. Sincerely, Wilson Rawls. June 20, 1974.”
Where the Red Fern Grows first appeared as a three-part series in the Saturday Evening Post in 1961, titled “The Hounds of Youth.” The first printing in book form also appeared in 1961, where it received positive reviews, but sales were sluggish. The book was published by Doubleday for an initial retail price of $3.95. This early printing was likely printed in 1971 but retains the 1961 date on the copyright page.
