Description

Inscribed to Associate Justice of the Supreme Court, William Henry Moody, this is the first edition of One Woman to Another by Corinne Roosevelt Robinson, the youngest sister of President Theodore Roosevelt.

Twelvemo, ix, [2], 73pp. Green cloth, title stamped in gilt on front cover and spine. No additional printings noted. Touch of wear to cloth, a near fine example. In the publisher’s dust jacket, tissue repairs to verso, broken hinges. This copy is inscribed a prominent member of Theodore Roosevelt cabinet, serving as the Secretary of the Navy, United States Attorney General and finally as his nominee to the Supreme Court. The inscription reads: “For Wm H. Moody, my friend, the valued friend of my brother, Theodore Roosevelt, from Corinne Roosevelt Robinson / May 1916.” An excellent association copy.

Corinne Roosevelt Robinson (1861-1933) was the youngest sister of President Theodore Roosevelt and an accomplished poet and author. In the 1890’s, she traveled with Theodore and Edith Roosevelt to the Dakota Badlands, which gave her better insight into his love of the outdoors. She was a frequent visitor to the White House, often staying up all night in conversation with her brother. Her literary works include: Call of Brotherhood (1912), One Woman to Another and Other Poem (1914), Service and Sacrifice (1919), My Brother Theodore Roosevelt (1921), The Poems of Corinne Roosevelt Robinson (1924), and Out of Nymph (1930).
