Description

2009 North Iowa Democrats Beacon Award, presented to President Jimmy Carter for his lifetime of service to the Democratic Party. This award was sold as a charity fundraiser by President and Mrs. Carter at the annual Plains Peanut Festival.

The crystal award measures 10″ x 5.5″, housed in blue presentation case, lined with black velvet. The base is black marble, with a silver plaque. The award was presented to former President Jimmy Carter on August 13th, 2009 in Clear Lake, Iowa, but Carter could not attend. It was to honor his 1976 Iowa caucus win, which launched his presidential campaign and solidified the importance of Iowa for future presidential candidates.

The Annual Beacon Award is presented each year to an “outstanding Democrat who represents the best attributes of Democratic Party values.” Previous recipients include President Barack Obama, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Rep. Elijah Cummings and President Jimmy Carter.
