An inscribed copy of A Soldier’s Story by General Omar Bradley, inscribed to National Security Advisor Gordon Gray. Octavo, xxi, [2], 618pp. Gray cloth, title in gilt on spine and front cover. Stated “First Rand McNally Printing, 1978” on copyright page. In publishers very good dust jacket, $10.00 retail price on front flap, light toning to spine and some wear along top edge. Inscribed by General Omar Bradley to National Security Advisor Gordon Gray: “To Gordon Gray, with best wishes and with appreciation and thanks. Omar N. Bradley (Brad to you).”

Comments: The recipient of this book, National Security Advisor Gordon Gray, served every president from Harry S. Truman through Gerald R. Ford. He served as the secretary of the Army under President Truman. Under President Eisenhower, Gray served as the head of the Office of Defense Mobilization and later as national security advisor. He was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1961 shortly before Eisenhower left office. From 1961-1976 he served on the president’s Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board. Gordon Gray passed away in 1982. General Omar Bradley was a decorated army commander during World War II. He commanded the II Corps during the Allied invasion of Sicily, the First Army Group during the invasion of Normandy and ultimately the Twelfth Army Group, which comprised all members of the United States Army serving in Western Europe and stands as the largest army formation in history. After WWII, he served as the first Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. He became the last general to be promoted to the rank of General of the Army, with a five-star rank.
