A Tree Grows in Brooklyn is a poignant coming-of-age novel set in the early 20th century, following the struggles and triumphs of young Francie Nolan and her family in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn. Through Francie’s eyes, the reader witnesses the challenges of poverty, immigrant life, and the pursuit of education and dreams in the face of adversity.

This notable autobiographical story was adapted into a film directed by Elia Kazan in 1945, and a Broadway play which debuted in 1951.
