Octavo, ix, [1], 806pp. Green cloth over white, title in gilt on spine. Stated “first edition” on copyright page. Solid text block, light dust along top of text block, otherwise fine. Bookplate on front endpaper. In the publisher’s dust jacket, near fine, with $10.95 on front flap and “1170” at bottom, closed tear along bottom edge of front panel, otherwise an exceptional dust jacket. Signed on the front free endpaper: “For Arnold Krammer / May this recall a moment of history we all shared – Lady Bird Johnson / January 5, 1971 / Lyndon B. Johnson.”
This copy of A White House Diary is inscribed to Arnold Krammer (1941-2018), historian and professor of American history at Texas A&M University in College Station. Krammer was a prolific writer, focusing primarily on the Jewish experience during World War II. His works include: Nazi Prisoners of War in America (1979), Undue Process (1997), Prisoners of War (2007), War Crimes, Genocide, and the Law (2010) and Hitler’s Last Solder in America (1985).
