Shortly after the death of President John F. Kennedy, President Johnson asked Chief Justice Earl Warren to head a presidential commission investigating the assassination of the president. What was formally known as the President’s Commission quickly became known as the Warren Commission. The members of the committee were a bipartisan group from different government agencies, meant to avoid any appearance of a cover-up. The commission served from December 1963 until October 1964, concluding with the publication of a final report. Mr. Warren advocated for more transparency in the final analysis but was rebuffed due to ongoing secret government actions. As a result, the lone gunman conclusion of the Warren Commission report was met with public skepticism.
