Octavo, 366pp. Publisher’s green cloth with title in gilt on spine, decorative gilt and black illustrations on cover. Complete with 174 illustrations by E.W. Kemble. Bright gilt on front cover. Light wear to tips of spine and corners. Solid text block, previous ownership inscription to front endpapers. Former ownership bookplate to front flyleaf. Includes the third state frontispiece portrait, with Photo-Gravure Company imprint and “Karl Gerhardt, Sc.” on shoulder of the bust. (BAL 3415) (McBride 92) An attractive copy.
This early American edition was released one year after the first American edition in 1885. Huckleberry Finn was originally published in the United Kingdom by Chatto & Windus in December, 1884.
