Octavo, 366pp. Publisher’s green cloth with title in gilt on spine, decorative gilt and black illustrations on cover. Cloth spine laid-down over new cloth, rubbing to gilt title on spine. Front hinge reinforced, archival tissue repair to edge of frontispiece. Includes 174 illustrations by E.W. Kemble. Bright gilt on front cover. Solid text block, free of notes or marginalia.

Contains the following first issue points, including a publication date of 1885 on title page, with 1884 on copyright page, “Huck Decided to Leave” on page 9, illustration “Him and another Man” incorrectly listed as page “88” on page 13, misprint “was” for “saw” on page 57, on page 155 the last “5” in page number is dropped, the “l” is missing from “Col.” on page 143, no signature “11” on page 161 and page 283 being a cancel. The heliotype slug appears on the Twain bust, with author’s name on shoulder.
