Folio, [two volumes], xxix, [1], 350pp; [8], 351-688pp. Stiff boards covered in bark-paper bound together with red cords, title on red label attached to front covers. Clean text, no marks or notations. Bright illustrations. Volume I – chipping along edges of covers, front hinge cracked near lower edge of spine, back hinge cracked near upper edge of spine, binding is solid. Volume II – top corner of spine bumped. Original red paper board chemise with red cloth spine, title printed on label attached to spine, toning to interior and exterior of spine, stain on label. Housed in publisher’s original red cardboard slipcase, shelf wear, chipping along edges, toning along edges of open end, seams of one panel splitting, but case is stable. From a limited edition of 1500 copies, this being number 1265, signed by the illustrator, Miguel Covarrubias in Volume II. A nice example.
