Scottish economist and philosopher Adam Smith (1723-1790) spent 10 years writing and perfecting An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations, the first book of modern economic theory and a foundational work on capitalism. The first edition was released in 1776, with this edition being published in 1819.
