Autograph book signed by President Harry S. Truman in Kansas City, along with other celebrities.
Twelvemo, [unpaginated]. Red leather covers, title stamped in gilt. Bound at spine with metal tacks. Light rubbing to covers, general toning to leaves. Includes numerous signatures from family as well as celebrities Vic Power, John Cameron Swayze, and Andy Williams. Inscription from President Truman reads: “To Sally Slezak, with best wishes and a hope that she may have a long and happy life. Harry S. Truman. 3/1/56.”
This item was purchased from the recipient of the autograph, Sally Slezak. From the previous owner: “We lived next door to a famous local journalist, Randall Jessee who was great friends with Harry Truman. …when they had President Truman over they would invite me too… He [Truman] was a great piano player and would play for hours. I would often sit beside him and listen to him. When I was nine years old; I got up the courage to ask him for an autograph. He was a very kind, softspoken gentle man.”
