Description
The first American edition of Brazilian Adventure by Peter Fleming.
Octavo, 412pp. Full beige cloth, title in black on front cover and spine. Illustrated endpapers showing a map of Fleming’s expedition. The first printing, with Scribner’s A and Scribner’s seal on copyright page. Slight lean to text block, with faint soiling to covers. Thin split along front cover, binding is sound. Additional dust jacket clippings pasted to front and rear flyleaves. In the publisher’s dust jacket, price-clipped, with chipping along top and worn edges. Light sunning to spine, illustrations otherwise vibrant. A very good example.
Peter Fleming (1907-1971) was the elder brother of fellow author and creator of James Bond, Ian Fleming. Peter Fleming began his international travels in April 1932 by responding to an advertisement in the Times to join an “exploring and sporting expedition” through the rivers of Brazil. He joined the party from June through November, and wrote Brazilian Adventure to detail the experience.
