In the publisher’s dust jacket, $3.95 retail price on front flap, three closed punctures and a few short closed tears to front panel, a near fine example. Illustrated cover and spine remain bright; jacket design by John O’Hara Cosgrove II.

Inscribed on the front free endpaper: “To — from Paule Marshall / 1959.” A beautiful signed copy of Paule Marshall’s memorable debut novel.

Paule Marshall (1929-2019) was a celebrated American author known for her insightful exploration of the African-American experience and Caribbean diaspora. Her literary works include Brown Girl, Brownstones, Praisesong for the Widow, and The Chosen Place, The Timeless People.
