Description

Presentation copy of Chief of Staff: Twenty-Five Years of Managing the Presidency, from Nixon’s Chief of Staff, H.R. Haldeman, to Vice Presidential Chief of Staff, Craig L. Fuller.

Octavo, xx, 244pp. Black cloth, title on spine. Full number line on copyright page. In publisher’s fine dust jacket, retail price on front flap. Inscribed by Nixon’s Chief of Staff, H.R. Haldeman: “For Craig Fuller – With respect from a former Chief of Staff to a potential future presidential chief, who is in the best training program possible. Good Luck. Bob Haldeman. 11/20/86.”

At the age of 34, Craig L. Fuller was asked to serve as the Chief of Staff for Vice President George H.W. Bush. He had previously served in the Reagan administration as the Assistant to the President for Cabinet Affairs. After serving as Chief of Staff for 4-years, it was assumed that Fuller would follow Bush to the White House in 1989. Shortly after the 1988 election, the President-elect told Fuller that New Hampshire Governor John H. Sununu would serve as his White House Chief of Staff. Fuller was disappointed and decided to return to the private sector, where he enjoyed a successful career in corporate and public affairs.
