Description
Signed copy of Devil At My Heels: A Heroic Olympian’s Astonishing Story of Survival as a Japanese POW in World War II by Louis Zamperini with David Rensin.
Octavo, xiv, 297pp. Illustrated paperback, title on spine and front cover. Stated “first Harper paperback published 2011” with full number line on copyright page. Solid text block, a touch of wear to covers, faint shelf wear, a fine example. Signed by author on verso of half-title, reads “Be Hardy / Louis Zamperini.” A rare signature in this beautiful copy.
Louis Zamperini (1917-2014) was on Olympic distance runner and American World War II veteran. He survived 47 days at sea after crashing on a search and rescue mission in May 1943, and he endured the remainder of the war in brutal conditions in two Japanese prisoner of war camps. Upon returning home in October 1945, he married Cynthia Applewhite and devoted his life to evangelism. Zamperini is the subject of the Academy Award-nominated film Unbroken, directed by Angelina Jolie and based on the book by Laura Hillenbrand.
