Earl Warren (1891-1974) was the 14th Chief Justice of the United States, serving from 1953 to 1969. Appointed by President Dwight D. Eisenhower, Warren is best known for his leadership in landmark Supreme Court cases that transformed American law and society, including Brown v. Board of Education (1954). Before his tenure on the Supreme Court, Warren was the Governor of California from 1943 to 1953 and the Republican vice-presidential nominee in 1948.
