    Octavo, 128pp. Blue cloth boards, gilt title on spine and cover. First edition first printing with full number line on copyright page. Light foxing on first 10 pages, damp stain on front cover. Dust jacket in very good condition, chipping at edges. Signed by first daughter Julie Nixon Eisenhower on front cover to Chief Usher Rex Scouten: “For Rex Scouten, Who has done more than he will ever realize to make life in The White House happy for all who enter – With grateful appreciation from my family, and with happy memories of our friendship for twenty years! Julie Nixon Eisenhower, May 1973.” Also includes a note on White House stationery from Julie Nixon Eisenhower to Rex Scouten, dated May 8th.

    Rex Scouten was the Chief Usher of the White House four US Presidents (Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan), then White House curator from 1986 until 1997. Scouten was known to be professional and discrete in his relationships with the nations top leaders. He developed a true friendship with the Nixon family, with the Nixon children continuing to write to him even after their father left office.
