Inscribed on the title page: “For Joe Reed – with my best wishes + my great appreciation for all your fine help + your great contribution to the U.S. / Casp.” Amb. Joseph Reed served as the United States Ambassador to Morocco (1981-1985) and Chief of Protocol of the United States (1989-1991).

Caspar Weinberger (1917-2006) served as the Secretary of Defense in the Reagan administration from 1981-1987. His tenure ended with the Iran-Contra Affair in 1987, but he was pardoned by President Bush and never convicted of any crimes. He died in 2006.
