Octavo, 256pp. Blue cloth, title stamped in gilt on spine. First edition statement on copyright page. Light wear to lower edge of spine, appears unread. In the publisher’s dust jacket, retail price on front flap, closed tear at heal of spine, shelf wear and rubbing to boards, a very good example.

Signed on the title page: “To Joel_, With warmest regards from his colleague. Freddie de Guingand / Toronto / June 1964.”

Major-General Sir Francis “Freddie” De Guingand (1900-1979) served as chief of staff to Field Marshall Bernard Montgomery, playing an important role in maintaining diplomatic relations between Montgomery, his peers and the American expeditionary forces.
