Octavo, [vi], 1037pp, [5pp, blank]. Original gray cloth, title in blue on spine and front cover. Contains “Set up and electrotyped. Published May, 1936” on copyright page, with no mention of other printings. Clean text block, solid binding, bookplate remnant on front endpaper. Touch of dust along top edge of text block, a near fine copy. Housed in custom brown cloth clamshell, title in gilt on spine. In the publisher’s first state dust jacket, $3.00 retail price on front flap, with “Gone With The Wind” appearing in right side column of “Macmillan Spring Novels” advertisement on back panel, free of any repairs. Dust jacket with short, closed tear along top edge of rear panel, top corner of front flap clipped, shallow chipping to tips of spine, exceptionally bright illustrations, a near fine example.
This Pulitzer Prize-winning novel was adapted into a feature film in 1939. According to a Harris Poll in 2014, this book remains the “second favorite book of American readers, just behind the Bible.”
