Folio, [two volumes], [6], 380pp, [2]; iv, 381-836pp. Publisher’s brown pebbled cloth, title stamped in gilt on spine and front cover. Includes color fold-out map of the Southern Confederacy in Volume I. Yellow endpapers, ownership stamp on front free endpaper of both volumes. Light foxing to endpapers of both volumes, internally fine. Free of marks or notations. solid text block.

This work is complete, with 998 maps, battle plans, soldier scenes, and portraits from the Civil War. Free of any restoration or repairs. (Eicher, 768)

An attractive piece, scarce in this condition.

The first issue of this book was published the same year in New York by Harper & Brothers, using the same plates. (Sabin 29113) (Nevins II, 15)
