Inscribed by Anwar Sadat on the half-title: “9.8.1981 / Anwar Sadat.” This copy was inscribed by Sadat and gifted to Gulliver while they visited former president Jimmy Carter in Plains, Georgia on Sunday, August 9, 1981.
Anwar el-Sadat (1918-1981) served as the President of Egypt from 1970 until his assassination on October 6, 1981. He won the Nobel Peace Prize, along with the Prime Minister of Israel, Menachem Begin, for their work to secure peace between Israel and Egypt in 1978.Hal Gulliver (1935-2016), the owner of this copy, was a political analyst and editor at The Atlanta Constitution through the 1970s and 80s. Gulliver provided Jimmy Carter with early support in both governor and presidential campaigns.
