Statement of “Published in 1957” on copyright page with no additional printings. Publishers dust jacket, with “25c.” price on front flap, bright illustrations, small nicks along top edge, small loss at top of spine. Signed on front free endpaper by Alger Hiss with the following inscription: “For Stan with warm good wishes + friendly sentiments, Alger. May 18, 1961.” Also accompanied by letters signed from Alger Hiss to the recipient of the signed book, Stan Marx. Mr. Marx was a bookseller in Rosalyn, Long Island.
Comments: Alger Hiss worked for the US State Department and worked towards the establishment of the United Nations. In 1948, he was accused of being a Soviet Spy, then convicted in 1950.
