Rachel Robinson (born 1922) is an American nurse, educator, and philanthropist best known as the widow of Jackie Robinson, the first African American to play Major League Baseball. After earning a degree in nursing from UCLA and later a master’s in psychiatric nursing from New York University, she worked as a researcher and clinical nurse before teaching at Yale School of Nursing. Following Jackie Robinson’s death in 1972, she founded the Jackie Robinson Foundation in 1973, which has provided scholarships and leadership development to thousands of minority students.
