Tall octavo, 30pp. Three-quarter calf, title in gilt on spine. Trim stamped in blind, marbled paper over boards. New endpapers. Issued with a half-title, but without a title page. Includes frontispiece portrait of Preble. Solid text block, very faint foxing to leaves, a near fine piece. (Howes K192) (Moebs 156)
Christopher McKee in Edward Preble (Annapolis, 1972), p.357, states that Kirkland, once president of Harvard, is the author of the Life of Preble that appeared in the Port Folio in two parts in 1810 that was also “issued in a small printing as a separate 30 page pamphlet.” This is that pamphlet.
