    Description

McCarthy and His Enemies by William F. Buckley, Jr. and L. Brent Bozell, inscribed by Senator Joe McCarthy and William F. Buckley.

Octavo, xv, [3], 413pp. Brown cloth, title stamped in black on spine. Stated “fourth printing” on copyright page. Bookplate on front pastedown endpaper. Light wear to spine, appears unread. Publisher’s dust jacket, $5.00 retail price on front flap, light sunning to spine, short closed tears, a very good example. Inscribed on the front free endpaper to J. Peter Grace, an American industrialist, who was CEO of W.R. Grace & Co. and leader of the Grace Commission to reduce waste in the federal government. Inscription reads: “To Peter Grace, With Sincere Good Wishes. Joe McCarthy.” Additional inscription: “With best wishes – Wm. F. Buckley.” Exceptionally rare to find a book signed by Senator Joe McCarthy.

Senator Joe McCarthy (1908-1957) of Wisconsin was made famous by his attempts to identify communist subversion in the United States. His aggressive tactics led to his eventual censure by the United State Senate, and in turn a rapid decline in his health. He died at the age of 48 in 1957.
