John Berendt (b. 1939) is a journalist turned author. Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil was his first book, spending a record-setting 216 weeks on The New York Times bestseller list. Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, a finalist for the 1995 Pulitzer Prize in General Nonfiction, tells the true story of the murder trial of Jim Williams in Savannah. This book was adapted into a movie of the same name in 1997, directed by Clint Eastwood and starring John Cusack.
