Description

First edition of Mosquitoes by William Faulkner, in the first state dust jacket.

Octavo, 349pp, [1]. Blue cloth, title stamped in yellow on spine. Patterned endpapers. The first issue, without “September, 1931” on the copyright page. Solid text block, bumped edges, a few points of foxing along edges, a near fine example.

In the publisher’s first state dust jacket, $2.50 on front flap, with short closed tears along flap folds. Sunned spine, with a thin crease along center of spine. A very good example, with no restoration work.

William Faulkner (1897-1962) was a two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning author, recognized for A Fable in 1955 and The Reivers in 1963. Faulkner primarily set his stories in the American South, many of which took place in the fictional Yoknapatawpha County. Mosquitoes was Faulkner’s second novel to be published. It was released on April 30, 1927, just over a year after the release of his first published novel, Soldiers’ Pay.
