Nelson Rockefeller (1908-1979) served as the 41st Vice President of the United States from December 19, 1974, to January 20, 1977, under President Gerald Ford. Prior to his vice presidency, Rockefeller served as the 49th Governor of New York from 1959 to 1973, as well as holding various federal government positions. He ran for the Republican nomination for president in 1964 and 1968, but lost the primary both times due to his moderate views. As vice president, he focused on domestic and foreign policy initiatives, including economic stabilization efforts and diplomatic engagements. Rockefeller was the son of John D. Rockefeller, Jr. and the grandson of the founder of Standard Oil, John D. Rockefeller. He passed away on January 26, 1979, at the age of 70.
