Sarah Emma Edmonds (1841-1898) was a Canadian who claimed to serve as a man in the Union Army during the Civil War under the alias Franklin Flint Thompson. “Nurse and Spy” chronicles her experiences, but historians are still uncertain as to whether the story is entirely true. This book was originally published one year earlier in Boston under the name “The Female Spy of the Union Army.”
