Our First Frigates, a report signed by President Franklin D. Roosevelt on the occasion of his second inauguration. Quarto, 14pp. Printed documents, bound by metal studs at top of report. Housed in blue cloth chemise, marbled covers, silk tie down. Bookplate of Frederick Baldwin Adams, Jr. on interior flap. The manuscript notes that it was “Read at the twenty-second general meeting of the society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers, held in New York, December 10 and 11, 1914,” by the Honorable Franklin D. Roosevelt, Assistant Secretary of the Navy. The document is inscribed by President Franklin Roosevelt on the last page, with his signature and noting that it was: “Signed Jan. 20th 1937. 2nd Inauguration Day.”
Comments: Provenance: From the private collection of Frederick B. Adams, bibliographer of President Roosevelt and director of the Pierpont Morgan Library in New York. His collection was sold by Sotheby’s in 2001.
