Octavo, 265pp. Blue and red cloth, title in gilt on spine and front cover. Stated “First Published June 1935” on copyright page with no additional printings listed. Slight lean to text block, sunning to spine, top edge dyed red, a very good example. In publisher’s first state dust jacket, $2.50 retail price on front flap, no reviews, usual sunning to spine, with slight wear to edges and small piece of tape on verso. Bright covers, with acetate wraparound jacket, overall a very good example. Signed by the author on the flyleaf. With laid-in autographed photo of Adolphe Menjou and first day cover envelope signed by Kirk Douglas.

Humphrey Cobb (1899-1944) was a Canadian-American author known for his novel Paths of Glory and his screenwriting for films like San Quentin, starring Humphrey Bogart. Paths of Glory was adapted into a film in 1957. Directed by Stanley Kubrick, the film starred Kirk Douglas as Colonel Dax and Adolphe Menjou as Major General Georges Broulard.
