    Publisher’s deluxe binding of the Personal Memoirs of P.H. Sheridan, the first edition, published in 1888.

    Octavo, [two volumes], xiii, 500pp; xi, 486pp. Publisher’s full brown morocco, gilt titles on spines, decorative illustration blind-stamped on covers. All edges gilt, marbled endpapers with decorative gilt turn-ins. Points of rubbing to spine, dye work to both spines, both stable. Both volumes with solid hinges and text block. Frontispiece portrait with tissue cover in each volume, some transference to tissue and title page. Multiple illustrated maps and illustrations, complete in both volumes. Large fold-out map of the Battle of Winchester (Eicher 572) (Nevins II: 88) Clean pages, bright illustrations, a near fine copy in the publisher’s scarce full morocco binding.

    Philip Henry Sheridan (1831-1888) served as a Union General during the Civil War and was notable for his close relationship with General-in-Chief Ulysses S. Grant.
