The Post Office Record of Register Mail for Plymouth, Vermont, the birthplace and homestead of President Calvin Coolidge. This document is personally signed by Calvin Coolidge twice, in receipt of registered mail, on July 25, 1932 and October 1, 1932, just months before his death on January 5, 1933.
This piece is signed on both sides and measures 10.5″ x 15″. The majority of the mail is addressed to former President Coolidge, most signed for by his staff.
After deciding not to run for reelection in 1928, President Calvin Coolidge split his time between a home in Northampton, Massachusetts and his boyhood home in Plymouth Notch, Vermont. In retirement, he wrote his memoirs and advocated for the reelection of Herbert Hoover in 1932. He died unexpectedly in 1933, at the age of 60, and was buried in Plymouth, Vermont.
